Trust Strategy

Powerful learning and fair assessment

What this priority is about

We want a curriculum that is ambitious, knowledge-rich and creative, and that prepares pupils for life in a complex world. Assessment should help teachers and pupils understand what has been learned, identify gaps and plan next steps, without creating unnecessary workload. Technology, including AI, should be used thoughtfully to enhance learning and reduce burdens, not to replace good teaching.

What this means for children and families

You should see:

  • A well-sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge and skills over time across all subjects.
  • Lessons that are engaging, challenging and adapted to meet different needs.
  • Assessment that is purposeful and proportionate, rather than excessive testing.
  • Pupils using digital tools confidently and safely as part of their learning.
  • Teachers who have time to focus on great teaching, not just administration.

How we will get there

We will:

  • Embed “Do Less, Better” principles in curriculum design, focusing on depth, coherence and progression rather than overload.
  • Publish and implement Trust-wide assessment principles to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Strengthen subject networks, coaching and collaborative professional development across schools.
  • Implement a Digital, Data & AI Framework to guide safe, ethical and effective use of technology.
  • Use audits, peer reviews and evaluation to monitor quality and share effective practice.

How we will know it is working

Over time, we expect to see:

  • Pupils achieving well across core and foundation subjects, with no significant gaps between groups.
  • Staff reporting that workload is manageable and that assessment is useful rather than burdensome.
  • High levels of staff confidence in using digital tools and AI safely and effectively to support teaching and reduce workload.
  • Consistent, proportionate use of formative assessment in classrooms across the Trust.
  • All schools implementing the Trust’s curriculum and assessment principles with high fidelity.
