Year 5 Home Learning
Welcome to Year 5. In this area, you will find the weekly slides used in class along with some activities. Do not forget that you can use Mathletics to help you with things you do not understand and Khan Academy is a very useful website for obtaining further instruction.
Week Commencing 4th May
Another week of lockdown begins. We hope you are all taking care and staying safe. At times this can be difficult but we must stay positive, we have come so far and things are slowly improving. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we all meet again, until then let’s continue doing the right thing ‘Stay safe, stay at home’.
The only change this week is in literacy/reading comprehension. The tasks set are going to be mostly reading so there won’t be a separate reading comprehension task. It is incorporated in the literacy tasks, which you will see when you work through the PowerPoints.
Contact any Year 5 teachers if you need help or guidance through the tasks you have been set.
Just a reminder that Friday 8th May is a Bank Holiday, so the children will have a catch-up day on Monday 11th May instead of the Friday.

Week commencing 20th April 2020
Hiya Everyone,
Here are the assignments for the week beginning the 20th April. Please share the new timetable with your parents - there is an important message above it, which we hope will reassure you and your parents about the amount of work you are doing. All we ask is that you do your best and do what you can.
We have decided not to delete the tasks from last week until the end of this week. It will give those who need it a chance to complete any tasks which haven't been completed. We will do this every week so don't panic if you get a little behind. Just do what you can.
Mrs Parker
Year 5 Home Learning Timetable
This is for guidance only. Every family has its own routine that fits in with their daily needs, so please adapt this to suit you. We have listened to some parent's concerns about the amount of work the pupils are being asked to do. Just to reassure all parents that we are very grateful for everything they are doing at home, to support their children in their home learning, on top of working themselves and running a home. Because of this, we have tried to lessen the burden by leaving Friday as a catch-up day for children who have not kept up, for whatever reason. For those who work more quickly, there are tasks they can do if they want to. We hope this makes life less stressful in this very unusual time.
Mrs Parker, Mr Hick and Mrs Kennard.

Week beginning 23rd March 2020
Reading: It is expected that children will read for 20mins a day. There is also a reading comprehension set in Google classroom. There are three levels. One star is the easiest, and three stars are the hardest. For most children, two stars would be the most appropriate level. Select the level most comfortable. This should be completed by the end of the week. Answers in work books. Date the work and which level completed.
Grammar: It is expected that children should spend at least 20 mins, 3 times a week on a grammar task. The powerpoint set for this week has teaching and a few tasks set, but these do not need to be done in one go. Work through and complete by the end of the week.
Literacy: Due to the fact that we do not usually set homework Easter holidays, we have decided to move the researching the Olympics and biography tasks until after Easter. Another literacy task will be set for next week, with a focus on the discussion text we have been working on in class. This will be added by Monday and should be completed by the end of the week.
Maths: Children should spend at least 45 to 60 mins on maths a day. There will be 3 maths lessons set, which should be completed by the end of the week. Work through the power points and complete the tasks in work books. Date and title each task. On the other days, the children will be expected to go on Mathletics and work through the tasks set. Some children will complete these quicker than others. Do what you can and complete as much as possible. Those that finish quickly can use Rockstars to practise their tables.
Science: We are hoping to have a science focus for next week. Complete as directed by the PowerPoint. This should be set by early next week.
Spellings: There will be daily tasks set on a specific spelling pattern. Work through these as the tasks will be familiar and something we have already practised in class.
After the Easter holidays, we will set another timetable and new work to be completed, week by week. I hope this is useful for both parents and pupils. This is new to all of us so we have to be patient, persevere and have a go. As we get used to this new way of working, I am sure we will make improvements and develop this further.
In the meantime, take care.
Mrs J Parker, Mr Hick and Mrs Kennard
